NOISE MONITORING TRENDS (Annual Average)
In March 2011, the Union Government set up National Ambient Noise Monitoring Stations through CPCB and SPCBs to monitor noise on 24×7 basis in India’s seven largest cities. These monitoring stations are installed at 35 locations in 7 metropolitan cities viz. Mumbai (including Navi Mumbai and Thane), Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Lucknow, and Hyderabad, each having 5 stations. These stations are installed as per the categorization of ambient noise standards (silence, residential, commercial, and industrial). The data generated at these stations are analyzed, which shows a fluctuating trend in noise levels in metro cities. The noise level data of each city is compiled and processed for interpretation.
The following graphical representations compare the noise at various monitoring stations with the standards prescribed.
DELHI
Delhi has noise monitoring stations only in commercial and silence zones. Delhi monitoring stations are Dilshad Garden(S); CPCB, HQ (C); DCE, Bawana (S); ITO (C) and NSIT, Dwarka (S). Data shows that the standards are not being followed. Trends shows Out of 5 stations, 4 monitoring stations are violating the limits. The situation worsens during night time when the noise intensity is far above the prescribed limits.

BANGALORE
Bangalore monitoring stations are Bangalore, BTM (R); Marathali (C); Nisarga Bhawan (R); Parisar Bhawan (C) and Peeniya (I). The noise monitoring trends in Bangalore show that the quality of noise is acceptable in commercial and industrial zones since there is no violation of the standard limits both during day and night time. However, the noise in residential zones is beyond the prescribed standard limit, particularly at Bangalore, BTM.

NOISE MONITORING TRENDS (Annual Average)
In March 2011, the Union Government set up National Ambient Noise Monitoring Stations through CPCB and SPCBs to monitor noise on 24×7 basis in India’s seven largest cities. These monitoring stations are installed at 35 locations in 7 metropolitan cities viz. Mumbai (including Navi Mumbai and Thane), Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Lucknow, and Hyderabad, each having 5 stations. These stations are installed as per the categorization of ambient noise standards (silence, residential, commercial, and industrial). The data generated at these stations are analyzed, which shows a fluctuating trend in noise levels in metro cities. The noise level data of each city is compiled and processed for interpretation.
The following graphical representations compare the noise at various monitoring stations with the standards prescribed.
CHENNAI
Chennai monitoring stations are Eye Hospital (S); Guindy (I); Perambur (C); T Nagar (C) and Triplicane (R). Chennai data reveals that the noise quality in industrial zone is well under prescribed standard limits. It shows that enough precautionary measures are taken in industrial area to minimize the impact of noise pollution. However, same is not the case with the commercial, residential, and silence zones. Especially, silence zone crosses all the limits. This has serious impacts over the health of the people – both physical and psychological.

HYDERABAD
Hyderabad monitoring stations are ABITS (C); Jeedimetla (I); Jublee Hills (R); ZOO (S); Punjagutta (C). Industrial zone in Hyderabad is well under the prescribed noise standard limits. However, similar to the pattern of other cities, commercial, residential, and silence zones are not following the norms. Situation is worst especially in case of silence zone. Although, the noise pollution has reduced since 2011 in silence zone, but it is still a cause where immediate actions need to be taken.

KOLKATA
Kolkata monitoring stations are Gol Park (I); New Market (C); Patauli (R); SSKM Hosp (S) and Head Quarter (C). Commercial zones in Kolkata are exposed to noise pollution more during the night time than during day time. In industrial zone, noise is well under prescribed limits. The situation is not good in case of residential zones where the people are exposed to noise during night time which seriously affects the psychological well being due to the disturbances in sleep. Silence zone is again the worst hit and it shows that no noise prevention measures are applied in this zone.

NOISE MONITORING TRENDS (Annual Average)
In March 2011, the Union Government set up National Ambient Noise Monitoring Stations through CPCB and SPCBs to monitor noise on 24×7 basis in India’s seven largest cities. These monitoring stations are installed at 35 locations in 7 metropolitan cities viz. Mumbai (including Navi Mumbai and Thane), Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Lucknow, and Hyderabad, each having 5 stations. These stations are installed as per the categorization of ambient noise standards (silence, residential, commercial, and industrial). The data generated at these stations are analyzed, which shows a fluctuating trend in noise levels in metro cities. The noise level data of each city is compiled and processed for interpretation.

LUCKNOW
Lucknow monitoring stations are Talkatora (I); Hajrat Gunj (C); P.G.I (S); Indira Nagar (R) and Gomti Nagar (S). The industrial and residential zones are complying with the noise standards. However, the commercial and silence zones are again the sufferer. The trends show that no one is concerned regarding the noise pollution in commercial and especially, in silence zones.

Mumbai monitoring stations are ASHP (S); Bandra (C); MPCB, HQ (C); Thane (C) and VASHI Hosp (S). Similar to Delhi, Mumbai also has noise monitoring stations only in commercial and silence zones. Except one location (Thane), rest all the noise monitoring stations show that noise levels are violating the standard limits. The situation is worst in case of silence zones (viz. hospital) where necessary precautionary measures need to be taken.
